How silly is that? I open things sometimes, like perfumes n' things. If they don't wantme opening it, then I just won't buy it. I'll go somewhere else

Totally legal, and good business. WalMart is a private company. They have a right to ask you not open stuff in the store before you pay for it. If someone came into your home and started looking in your cabinets don't you think you would have a right to ask them to stop?
This is nothing new. All stores have programs to prevent shrink. Most stores actually hire people to pose as customers and watch other customers. WalMart is just up front about it, and that's the choice the company made.
If one thinks that policy is wrong, they are free to shop somewhere else, I suppose.

I dont think there is anything wrong with it. Lots of stores have these type of employees, our local Kroger had an "Asset Protection" employee attacked with a knife by a man stealing hair care products who knocked a woman down and broke her foot while escaping. It can be a dangerous job but to deter theft and other crimes I feel safer knowing they are there.

They have these employees, and you can't get anyone to wait on you in hardware or electronics most of the time.
I say they will be keep busy helping customers who can't find anyone else to help them.
* why the flashlights ??

It is their store, they can do as they wish if is within the law. This policy is breaking no laws. If you don't like it, don't shop there.

One more reason not to go anywhere near a Walmart.
I wonder if these new employees are even making a living wage?
