The banks that close at 3 pm are the shared banks like DBS, UOB, OCBC, Maybank, Standard Chartered, HSBC. The banking hours reflected 9am to 3pm. However, they are still working until 5pm or after all transactions done for the day has been reconciled and the amounts tallied.
However, the POSB some branches are open from 11am to 7pm while most branches open from 8.30am to 4.30am.
Have to bear in mind that these are only the banking hours. They will work until all the monies are tallied and all clear.

Some banks close at this time to finish up the book work.Their not actually closed within but stop any other business that would cause them to stay past 5 or 6 PM.

Most of our banks are open from Monday-Friday 9:30am-4pm. I have never understood the reasoning behind such limited opening hours. Sure you can do most by phone or internet banking these days, but some working people still need to be able to access a physical bank outside of working hours. It's a crazy business decision to me. Every other retail or service industry is more accessible. I guess with holding a great deal of power like banks do you can do whatever you want.

So the workers can go home ! They do not pay tellers, and grunt workers very well, so the perks need to be good, like short work days instead of pay.
In Florida we have competition for the deposits, Bank Atlantic open 7 days a week, 9 to 5. Do business with them, mail it in,
direct deposit your paycheck, pay bills on line (free) Great bank compared to mine.

Some don't because they realize the old way was a dumb way.
Around here some of the banks have branches in super markets and stay open till 9PM like the supermarkets (and 7 days a week).
