It's better you say it and combine it with action. It's more sincere that way i think! There's nothing wrong in saying sorry if you know it's the only way to patch things up with your friend. And also there's nothing wrong in being humble enough to acknowledge your fault you know!

"You are young, my child
You've Oh so much to learn
And growing up is hard to do
Take your time, Wait your turn".
First, be honest with yourself! We all do silly things, no matter the age (I'm just over 700)!!!
Next, be honest with those you love and care about.
Tell them you are sorry and next devise a method to let them know when you are joking the next time.
Example ... I kid around a lot and tell tall tales (yeah, lies). Those who are close to me know this and also know that "If they suspect I might be fibbing, all they need do is ask " Are you telling the truth"? And I promise, I will always tell them the truth, when they ask".
The tales I tell are never meant to hurt anyone! But people are so gullable (not stupid) now-a-days. And rightously so! Who can tell truth from fibs today?
One of my fav's was telling a story about a new movie coming out ... Jaws 13! It's plausable!
In this show, a boy catches a baby shark and raises it in a bathtub back on the farm. Soon, it gets too big and he releases it into a nearby lake. Thanks to a chemical company dumping stuff into the lake, the shark becomes impregnated! It produces strange babies ...
A Hammerhead which hits it's victims over the head with it's hammer-like nose. Sand-sharks which burrow up through the sand to attack their victims. Flying sharks which seek victims on New York streets. And so on ...Just to see how far I can get with the "story" ... you would be surprised!!!
Anyway, hope this helps some.
In the meantime just be honest with yourself and your loved ones.

Without saying sorry!? your kidding me right??? You have to know, that maybe when she was laughing with your friends an u, she just didn't want everybody to know it hurt! but, girl, i've had some fights with my best friend, and to tell you, you just gotta say "i'm sorry if i hurt you, please forgive me." And if you cant do that, i don't know what to tell you besides look her in the eyes, and whisper it to her.
God Bless you, and I hope this all works out ok.. i really do.

I think I would just suck it up and say you are sorry. Sometimes it is better that way, and people can tell you mean it a little easier.
