The first difference between Dems and Repubs: It took about 50 years of leadership before the Dems got corrupt. It took about 50 MONTHS for the same thing to happen to the Republicans.

It just goes to show how one sided each party is. A party gets in power and works as hard as it can to resolve the issues they want to and change what they see wrong all the while ignoring any legitimate argument the other side has. In that process they screw things up because they do not want to even consider the other sides case on the sole base on the fact they are on the opposite side of the fence. Then add in the corruption, and it really hits the fan.Neither side has it right, and I personally wish a new party would form with some other idea of how to get things done. We do have that, they are called the Libertarian party, but I think we all know a snowball has a better chance in hell than they do getting elected only because they are not either Democrat or Republican. So just choose the lesser of the 2 evils if you plan on voting. That's what I have learned. Its like Russian Roulette, only the chamber that does not fire is only because it is slow. Give it time.

Well, the old dem idea was tax & spend.
Seems like an improvement over cut & spend.
The government is going bankrupt.
Social security/medicare/medicaid is going bankrupt.
The simplest economic principles & anything else that is inconvenient to the ideology of the moment have been banished from discussion at the highest levels of US government.
And the answer to everything is "BE AFRAID!" - a sad excuse for
communication from a supposedly representative government.
The dems are a great dissappointment to me as a party, but no democratic politician in my lifetime has threatened our civil rights, our global standing, our economic stability, our freedom of expression at home, the credibility of elections, the simple basic protections for clean air & clean water and any of a long list of deeply concerning negative developments in the last six years.
Its going to take a long time to recover from this complicated mess, and I question whether the dems are up to it.
Unfortunately, I don't see any viable alternative.

The Democrats were in power for thirty years, and before they became corrupt enough to get voted out of power, they managed to enact some of the most progressive civil rights and environmental legislation ever enacted.
The Republicans have, in 12 years, set us back almost to the beginning of the Industrial Age in terms of the rich getting richer and the poor getting screwed.
I hope people are waking up across the country. Here in Texas, we are so delusional we thought Bush did a good job.

I like John McCain...and I am a lifelong Republican. I want people in office who are able to think beyond a party line and try to be honest...asking alot I know. People screw things up and yes I agree power is a corrupting influence, but not all crooks are from a certain "party"

Well, it looks as though McCain, a Republican, may be going against Hillary a Democrat. Ask yourself about these two and make a choice.

What? I thought the Kerrys, Clintons, Deans, Pilosis, Kennedys, and other ilk had been doing a pretty good job of screwing things up for decades. Why give them more power to where they can do irreparable damage?

I think we should all remember that as long as we humans are in charge, there will be mistakes, blame, dysfunction, etc. There are no perfect solutions, either. I agree, power corrupts. So, even if an Independent or Libertarian is voted in (if there are any running), they are subject to the same temptations.

Well, they had 50 years in power and things haven't been completely fixed yet.
After the Republicans have had 50 years, maybe!
I voted for McCall when I lived in Oregon.
(Have the Californians learned to stay home yet?)
