9 times out of 10 it means your mother board is shot. Try turning it on while having it plugged into a wall socket. If it still won't stay on, chances are you need a new mother board.

check ur cpu fan at the back of ur pc. make sure it is running fast and fine make sure it is not blowing out hot air. then restart ur pc if it shut down again try login in by soafe mode . if it then remove what you last installed on the pc if the pc shut down when trying to get into safemode you really need to have a look at that cup fan if that is on the way out. soon as that stops the pc will follow verry fast it will over heat and burn out . so make sure ur fan is not blowing out verry hot air and that it is going really fast if you see that the fan at the back is going slow shut off the pc and put a new one in .
if the fan is fine the load the pc in safemode and uninstall what you last install . then try if still no good go back in safe mode and
back up ur work fimes you was using to cd then go
go to >>> start > all program menu > .Accessories> system tools >system restore point then hit on next go back a day or 2 to a potin that the pc was fine then hit next and wait for the system restore point to go then you restart the pc then try

Make sure the fans are spinning.
If you have a spare power supply, try that before replacing the MB.

hardware conflict...unplug everything but the vid memory and processor and connect one by one...also if its a xp upgrade ..xp is notorious for crappy load on older computers.
