I don't have research to back it up, but my parents have had a septic tank and a garbage disposal for over 30 years with no problems at all. I know my mom will compost her waste if she has a very large quantity at a time, but for an every day dinner, she puts the vegetable waste down the disposal just about every night. Hope that helps!

I just remodeled a house with a septic tank....all of my friends said that I couldn't have a garbage disposal with septic tank.....I have been here for 6 months and find NO problems....I just used a "commercial" quality disposal...it grinds much finer than most .....I also make sure to keep the strainer in the other side of the sink.

Have it Pumped. Then use a product which incorporates RIDX / YEAST cakes once a month. do not use Powered Laundry cleansing soap ever. Use a bio-degradable bleach. do not use Powdered dish cleansing soap. this received't in basic terms help the Septic Tank / in spite of the indisputable fact that the Septic field besides. many years of problem loose Tank and field.

disposals are bad for septic systems. You can use them but they reduce the tank capacity as they fill with garbage you should have thrown away. You will have to get pumped out sooner and if you wait to long you will plug your laterals.

there is much controversy here, and some peopel won't even put tissue paper in their systems!! however, if you put only bio-degrable organic food items,, and maintain your system properly you won't have any problems,, make sure you put in a bottle of that septic tank enzyme stuff to help out,,, my first septic system was two 55 gallon barrels in the ground,, and it is still functioning at my camp,,, I never worry about the disposer or tissue etc,,,as long as it never dries up and has plenty of enzymes to break down the "matter" it should do like the energizer bunny!!!

I have a garbage disposal and a septic tank.

I've heard pros and cons.....but the best advice seems to be use sparingly and you will be fine. Don't dump large quantities of leftovers or peelings, etc. But you can do fine with plate scrapings and small amounts of food.

The whole thing is you can use it. but don't abuse it.
