If it's controversial chances are it will get a lot of answers. If it's a simple yes or no question or something people can give a short answer to you'd probably get a lot of answers because those questions are quick to answer to get points.

If it hits a person's emotion, they will answer it.
If they want to express their reason for something they will answer.
Must have a catchy Main question title/header.
It's just like journalism...It doesn't matter how important it is - just how it's played.

You never know... You could ask a really thought-provoking question and you will only get 4 answers. Or you could ask a stupidass question and get a bazillion answers. Or vice verse.

Usually if it sounds provocative more people answer. It's disappointing sometimes when you have what you think is a good ? and you don't get any good answers.

simple, to the point, and not stupid helps. If you have to write a book to answer it, it sucks.
