Unfortunately, genetics play a big role in whether or not you get them or how bad they are. Using mineral oil, or lotions with cocoa butter or shea butter can help. They can help keep the skin moistourized, and help minimize they're appearance some. It calways helps with itching. The skin can only stretch so much, so it's likely you'll still get them either way. Some women get them more than others (like me), and some get very few or none at all. Also, women with lighter complexions tend to get them more, bc their skin tone is lighter and they appear much more easily. Just use lotion in the morning and before bed. Its about all you can do really.

Good genetics. Honestly there's not much you can do. Using a good oil or balm with cocoa or shea butter religiously during and after pregnancy can help the elasticity factor a bit, but skin can only stretch so much.

I've yet to have children, but I do have a good remedy from my mother who has had 5 kids and has no stretch marks!
There is this brand of scar therapy called Mederma. You have to use it consistantly, just like cocoa. EVERYDAY. That and exersizing!

Everything that everyone, who answered before me, said is true! But, keep in mind stretch marks are genetic, as well.
