There used to be a site where you entered a URL and it would tell you if the site was known to be infected or a phishing site. I can't find it anymore.

Just incase you are interested the new IE 7 will check for phishing. and Firefox 2.0 does as well. I think we all know which sites are usually virus infected. hack crack and porn and don't forget File Sharing, stay away and you will be fine.

You do not need Google toolbar. IE 7 and Firefox have built in pop up blockers and they already have google search as well an extra toolbar is a waste of space, Get Customize Google- a FireFox extension.
