Yes I do, contrary to popular belief not all beggars are smack heads and alcoholics, some people are on the street through no fault of their own, marriage break ups, family disputes, ex armed forces, people who had to get away from others who were making their life too hard for them, lots of reasons for some of the beggars on our streets today, like they say there but for the grace of god go I, a smile and a few bob helps make their life just that little bit more bearable.

Yes, if I have anything to give (I am pretty hard up). I know they might just be chancers looking for easy money, they might spend it on drink or drugs, or they might want something to eat. But what ever their reason is, their is a chance they are genuinely in need. I was in town with my sister a few days ago and was carrying her shopping bags for her. I had no money at all but must have looked like I did as I was carrying shopping bags. A guy asked me for money and I had nothing to give him. I felt like such a s**t. Imagine what it must feel like to have nothing, and see all these people walking around with bags and bags of stuff they have bought. Thats why I give money to beggars.

Occasionally, although not as much as I used to, 'cos I don't have as much money as I used to. I do, because I would like to think if I was in that posititon, where I felt all I could do was beg for change off strangers, someone would do the same for me.
I earn below the national average, but I still feel lucky to be living in 21st century europe, with a job, a home, a family, and a reasonable standard of living.
I think a can spare a bit of change.

Yes, I have....not to every beggar that I run into but to some. Must depend on how I'm feeling that day. I guess part of me feels fortunate that I am not in that position and 50 cents or a dollar is not going to break me. Who knows what has happened in their life that they have resorted to begging. Maybe I helped them a little, maybe they are so beat down they can't get up. Its not for me to judge.

I seen an old man once with one leg begging , he was clean and polite and i gave him all i had in my pocket (about £25) because despite his misfortune he had made an effort to remain decent .
In the same week i was asked for money from a dirty scruffy 20 year old girl with a dog ,
I asked her why she was begging she replied "no job no home no home no dole"
I told her to walk to the next town or the next until she found a job and on the way wash in the river ,
I gave her nothing .

Sometimes I do but not very often. We don't have beggars where I live but when I travel I often give them some lose change. I prefer giving them food though or buying them a meal.

i'd rather buy them food. chicago has this great thing called "streetwise" magazine. they employ homeless people on the condition that they stay sober and all, and they actually sell you a magazine on the street. part of the proceeds go to the seller, and part to keep the program running. i'd rather do that than indescriminately give away money. in the long run, though, the loss of a dollar won't kill me. i really don't need that whopper jr.
