Yes, sort of. I have listened to them for the last 9 years or so and have seen all their changes. Starting mostly with about their Sing the Sorrow CD they really started to buy into the whole emo thing. Mostly due to Jade, their guitarist, I think. Anyway, they sound a whole hell of a lot like all the other emo bands - Finch, Boy Sets Fire, Deathcab for Cutie, Thursday, Taking Back Sunday, Fallout Boy, to name a few. A few of the bands I listed could be argued as being "Pop-punk" by some. Emo music always has that false emotion feel to it, where it's some dude crying about a girl he lost...in highschool, even though the guy writing it is probably 28. Many bands that are emo label themselves as hardcore. I don't know what the hell happened, ut I remember Bloodlet being hardcore, not Atreyu. Unfortunatly, many of these emo bands are high school kids. If you hear of a high school kid in a band, assume it's emo, it almost always is. If you want a big list of emo bands, just check out the Drive-Thru Record's or Victory Record's websites.

the answer is no..
if you are talking abou the music genre "emo" that is..
and for the other "emo" which means emotional and usually involves people cutting their wrists..
anyway
back to the music genre of "emo"...Panic! at the Disco, and Fall Out Boy are perfect examples..
not AFI
"Miss Murder" is a bit emo
but that is only ONE song
ever heard of "Kill Caustic" which is off the same album as Miss Murder?
if you consider that emo, you are crazy
their old stuff is Punk and their is not even a slight chance to call them emo..

Uhm well a lot of bands switched from hardcore rocker punk to...well, emo. Even if they don't admit it. On AFI's myspace they categorized themselves as "rock" but they look like the classic stereotype of "emo". Some people are so used to labeling that when a band wears black they instantly think "emo!!" or "goth!!" or something like that. My Chemical Romance (MCR) is categorized as emo music. But whatever, I hate labels so I just call it rock...Hope that helped =)
