Some time ago, there was an episode of the "Two Guys Garage" on the Speed Channel. They showed a tool that you would just pass over the wiring and it would show where you had a short. At the time I tried to go on the internet to find this tool, but had no luck. Did anyone out there see this episode and can they tell me the name of the tool and/or where to purchase it?

I know the tool. It uses a 9v battery (or even the car's battery) and a hand held inductive ammeter. You can check automotive wiring places like: www.painlesswiring.com or even parts catalogs such as www.summitracing.com or www.jegs.com.

BEST BET. Look in the christmas lighting department of local hardware stores. They have small pen shaped short-finders for xmas lights. It has a couple of small batteries and an LED in it. You hold the button and pass it over the wires. When there is power, the light comes on.... Works for 110v ac and should work for 12v dc.

The tool you are looking for is simply called a short finder and is nothing more than a circuit breaker with a light and something similar to a compass. I own one purchised from a tool truck (Snap-On) and thats the only place I have seen them for sale. The Snap-On part number is YA809 for that one, and a different version is part number PEAT195. Hope that helps. -Jeff
