You can't disable caps lock, but there is a way to know when you've hit it. It's called "toggle keys." Go to Control Panel. The fastest way to get where you want to be is to make sure Control Panel is in classic view. That option is shown in the left column. Once you are in classic view, choose "Accessibility Options." On the first tab (keyboard) there are three sections.
Go down to the third one and select "Use toggle keys." Click apply. Click okay. Once you have done that, your computer will beep any time you hit caps lock or num lk (number lock). It saves a lot of re-typing.

I'm with you on that one...
I have simply pried the keycap off, so that I CAN'T hit it (I have to hold down shift to get caps). It can be pressed back in if I ever need it, I keep the keycap right next to my monitor.
It should also be possible to go to the hardware store and get a couple of short, stiff springs to put behind the keycap, glued in place so that it takes a fair amount of force to push the button -- this will prevent accidental pressing of it.

Caps Lock is a "toggle."
Press it down to type in all caps.
Press again to release.
When you just want to type one capital letter, for example, at the beginning of a sentence, press and hold the shift key while you press the letter you wish to capitalize. The shift key is not a toggle. It will only create a capital letter when you hold it down.
