I am a night owl. I generally get my 2nd wind around 9:30. Then, I'm up til midnight or so. I have tried going to bed earlier, but I just lay awake & toss and turn. I start work at 6am, so I don't often get a whole lot of sleep. I'm just curious if I'm alone in this. If I'm not--what do you do for it?

I tend to get tired around 1am and have to work at 7am, so i know how it feels. i find that reading in bed or listening to a book on tape from www.audible.com really helps me get tired. no coffee for at least 3 hours before i want to sleep helps too.

You're not alone, except I don't have to start work at 6:00 a.m., more like 9:00 a.m.

Sometimes I take medication. Or Alka Seltzer Night Time cold medicine. Sleep deprivation is unhealthy. Also, I don't find doctors help much unless they're willing to prescribe something that will put me to sleep. I have wasted a lot of money over the years paying for prescriptions like Sonata and I forget the others. Half of them kept me even more awake. Fioricet works for me but butalbital does get addictive after a while so I had to stop using that. Best thing is not to toss and turn but read a book or something -- no TV or computers or bright lights. Good luck.

Well, there are a lot of answers.
Just because I had a massive thyroid problem that started out like that doesn't mean you have it, but thyroid problems are common enough that I encourage everyone to check just in case.
What to do with it?
Can you exercise right after work and get tired four hours later?
Can you manage your breathing when in bed?
Just breathing very deeply and slowly puts most people's brains in a much lower state of arousal, and it could help. Might even save your life if you drive for work a lot!

I did that for many years until I took up meditating and listening to music...it will take awhile but you can train yourself to it and once you do you will wonder how you survived on such little sleep! I look forward to it each night and sleep like a log!

I am the total opposite. I am an early bird. My boyrfriend is like you. Sometimes he goes shopping at places like walmart to get his stuff when he gets his 2nd wind. Or he watches movies and reads magazines.

Try melatonin. You can buy it over the counter. Walgreen's has their own brand called Midnite which melts in your mouth and works beter for me. It makes me sleepy but has no effect on me the next day.
