my first was wrong. But I has the ultrasound early. I had it at 12 weeks and they said boy, but she is a girl and has been for almost 6 years now. I suggest not believing the ultrasound until after 16 weeks to be sure.

My parents had an ultrasound with me, and the doctor said I was a boy. Boy was he wrong. Sometimes it's difficult to tell the sex of the baby in an ultrasound, especially if the baby isn't turned quite the right way. Best of luck!

It hasn't happened to me, but at the hospital near where I live they stopped disclosing that information from the ultrasound because they were wrong and someone actually sued the hospital and won. Now if you want to know, you have to drive about 3 hours to another hospital. So it has happened before, and from the looks of other people's responses, it happens a lot. If I were you and you wanted to know the sex of the baby, make sure (if you can) that you can actually see the parts of the baby - have them point it out to you or something. I would be very weary of buying everything for a girl and surprise....a baby boy arrives! Good luck with your decision and I hope that you get a clear cut answer!

Our ultrasound unit had a policy of refusing to tell you, they said because of this problem.
However our midwife told us that as we looked at the ultrasound,if we saw a large "sack" between the legs that would be the scrotum in a boy.
So we had a good look and worked it out for ourselves when we had the ultrasound!

PS scrotum is greatly enlarged at this stage, looks like baby has a beach ball down there!

Not me, but it happened to my sister and cousin. My sister cried. My cousin was glad. Try a 3d ultrasound if you can afford it. Here's where I went, but they're all over the country: http://www.babywaves3d.com
