I am in a creative writing class and one of our assignments is to write a drama piece which means a 10 page play (essentially 10 minutes). I am sooooo struggling for ideas right now though, do you guys have any ideas for me?

Write a little scene where a woman is sitting on a park bench and a man comes along and sits beside her. It is noon and a nice day; they are office workers having lunch outside. They start chatting. They discover that each other is single. They begin to imagine what it would be like to finally meet Mr or Ms "Right". They imagine having a house, a dog, kids, PTA meetings, etc. As they go on into this fantasy they slowly switch into the kind of arguments couples have ("you never help me around the house", "why are you always nagging me?") They argue. And finally they "Break up" and the woman leaves in a huff. The man is sitting along, looking sort of mad/sad. Another woman walks in and sits down, opening her lunch. A moment or two passes, and then the whole process starts again. Go to black on the tag line (i.e., the same opening line that started the first conversation....that will signal the audience clearly that this whole little emotional process is about the be repeated. The cute thing about this idea is that we see a couple go through all of the stages of a real relationship in about ten minutes. That's the comedy part, but the deeper meanings about relationships are there between the lines.

Ask your self questions. Like, what would my imagination let me do on stage that I couldn't do in real life. What are your limitations in this play? What is acceptable and what is unacceptable with the audience. What do I want to get across to the audience, what is the message of the play. Will it be fun, will it be sad, will it have a moral. So many things to consider. Good luck---

Isis has an awesome suggestion! Do a comedy or a romance. Everybody loves a comedy (exept goths) and besides guys, everybody loves a romance (tragic romance for goths).
