I think you could do worse than to compare it with the original (and to my mind the greatest) vampire novel (not including Varney the Vampire and the other penny dreadfuls before anyone else writes in).

Dracula by Bram Stoker will allow you to compare how a similar subject matter is dealt with by a different generation of writer. Construction, technique, reflection of current attitudes to disease (eg. Aids) of the writer, etc., etc.

Good luck with the thesis.

How about "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. The original monster story.

Or Hammet's The Maltese Falcon. Another novel with a wonderful sense of atmosphere.

Try thinking of the main themes in the novel, and find another one with similar themes and compare/contrast how both are presented.

I can't think of anything great... it may be too close but perhaps one from her witch series... it will deal with 'transformation' but on a different level, relationships, and of course the supernatural.
Good Luck
