The Spartan society had 2 kings. Newborn babies were left overnight in the mountains to decide if they were strong & children were sent off for military training from the age of 7.

The Athenians were most famous for their democratic form of government. All Athenian citizens have a chance to be elected in yearly held elections - note that citizens mean those who are Athenians by birth & blood & do nbot include immigrants nor permanent residents. The Athenian soldier is a usually a farmer by profession & takes up arms when the city state is threatened.

The Romans were to a wide extent influenced & looked up to Greek culture. In fact, Roman democracy is based on Athenian democracy with the difference that they had 3 counter-balancing institutions such as the Senate, Consulship & a body that represents the common people.

Militarily - a Roman has to serve in the army from the age of 18 till 60, being liable for campaigns up to 6 months each year.
