everything is plugged properly --all seems to be functional--- gets past final hardware check (the ram)-- recognizes hard drive-- and justs hangs there. at this point it should go to the hdd and boot windows ? the hdd is the only hardwae thats not brand new it does function properly- and it has win xp installed. i tried to go to the bios and i can not do that either. it wont take any commands.

If you can't get to the BIOS then obviously things aren't all checking out ok. It sounds like you have a motherboard failure. What make/model of motherboard are you using?

There may be many reasons for this problem. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

it sounds like your mobo if it is new than return it and get another one.
