Wasn't that kind of cruel?

Yes unfortunately they do. It was done to my oldest brother because he suffers from sever depressions and medication doesn't work on him. so it was decided to do electric shock therapy which resulted in him losing part of his memory and he's worse of then he was before. I'm absolutely against this kind of therapy. there are to many risks involved

Yes they do!!! It's still used to treat depression in the most extreme of cases. I have a friend who's father has had it done SEVERAL times by his own choice. As for cruel....well, if you've ever been that severely depressed you might not think it's cruel....

They'll still give you the paddles if your heart stops, or even if it goes out of rhythm. It isn't cruel if it's saving your life.

In some places yes, or as a form of torture. Also it is quite effective in turning a gay person straight.
