If you were writing a paper about the Hannibalic War what would be your thesis?

Try looking into Hannibal's grand strategy of breaking up the Roman federation. He understood that the only war to defeat the Romans once & for all was not purely by military victories (which were the means to his ends) but by political victories as Rome draws many of its legions from her allied states.

You should also state the reasons why Hannibal was ultimately defeated. ie, the Roman soldiers vs the Carthaginian mercenaries, the strenght of the Roman federation as well as the political unity of the Romans vs the disunity found in the Carthaginian senate.

I would write a paper on one of the three subjects. 1) General Hannile's military geniuses. 2) Why Roman expansion worried the Cartgaginian's. 3) Why Hannible's sucsess in Spain and why the Roman Republic was worried about it. Hope it helps. I would pick the second one.

Well, perhaps you could make the vocabulary more intellectual, but try this: Hannibal couldn't leave well enough alone. He had come to the point where the Carthaginian empire could survive, perhaps even including Spain, but in trying to invade Italy, he lost it all.
