My sister is 23 weeks and just quit smoking. Im really proud of her for doing so even if it wasn't earlier although I am wondering if her two cigarettes a day habit has harmed her unborn son? The doctor told her the baby is fine.

There is always a chance... BUT since it was only 2 a day and she quit, most likely, her baby will be absolutely fine.

It is very difficult to tell if there is any actual damage to the baby until it is born when smoking is involved. Only a few of the most serious complications can be found while still pregnant. If the doctor says the baby is fine right now, then hopefully/thankfully there probably isn't anything seriously wrong with the baby... but there is always the possibility.

There are a lot of different views on smoking and pregnancy. The most common thing to come from a woman that smokes during pregnancy is a low birth weight. Even though that's not a good thing.. it's not the most terrible habbit for your sister to have had. The fact that she quit is amazing.. and im proud of you for being concerned! Congrats to all of you on the new family member!!

If the doctor said all is well then i'm sure it is. Smoking can have bad side effects for baby though so it is good she gave up. In saying that my Mum smoked all through out her pregnancy with me (this was pre- all the major health warnings about smoking.) and i turned out fine so i'm sure her bubby will be too - especially now she's no longer smoking!!

Listen to the dr I am sure the baby is fine. I know how scary it is when all the reports say how bad it is to smoke and be pregnant and all the effects, but if the dr says he is ok I am sure he is. Look at how it was years ago, alot of women smoked before they found out smoking was bad for babies and there were alot of healthy babies born. Congrats to your sister for quitting and to you auntie!

Well its deffinatly a good thing that she quit but there are so many little things that could be wrong that the doctor cant see right now, but if he isnt worried then I bet things will be fine. Just make sure that she keeps up on those doctor visits.

for most the baby will be fine. but there have been studys done that show that if the mother comtinues to smoke then the baby could have problems like adha and others. the site I gave you is below, but most kids don't have problems. I smoked with my first two for the first few months,(not that that was good, but) they are fine.

She should be fine now that she has stopped smoking, there have been links to low birth weight and smoking. Good for her taking such an unselfish move for the benefit of her baby

Good Girl, it is a hard habit and she has stopped in time that her baby will hopefully not be affected by a low birth weight.

if the docter says the baby is fine the baby will be fine.... it's ok don't worry about it. Two cigaretts isn't bad but they can be deadly.... DON'T EVER START and if you have already quit as soon as possible because it WILL kill you.
