What happened to the guy who was SUPPOSE to be in the play?

Rosemary's Baby - the guy who was supposed to be in the play went blind.
Very scary movie!!! I still remember watching it and getting up to go to the bathroom. Coming back, my husband hid around a corner and grabbed me and I screamed and burst into tears, I was so scared!

Rosemary's Baby, with Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, and Ruth Gordon (who won best supporting actress Oscar).
John Cassavetes played an understudy. After his pact with the devil, the lead actor became paralyzed and the Cassavetes character got the role.
The film still holds up pretty well today.
