The liberation of free electrons from a substance caused by external energy applied to the electrons.

electrons can be emmitted in various way.
Thermionic emisson =electron emitted to heated metal
Photoelectric effect=electrons emitted from a metal surface due to injected radiation.
When electrons are emitted they move the same way as light radiation moves ;so electronic emissions is really electronic radiation.
