A lot of the answers are correct, however there are many sites such as second life, that require that you use the nVidia archetecture. For this simple reason, I highly recommend the nVidia caard. Most gaming sites require it. ATI on the other hand is a great card, though not wel supported. Hope this helps.

They both race to make good cards. But I always like ATI. I owned one Nividia card all the others where ATI. Plus AMD has joined up with ATI to make better cards.

NO Nividia isn't the only one with dual graphic cards. ATI uses Crossfire which dose the samething.

BTW don't waste your money on SLI or Crossfire cause that is another way they suck you into buying two graphic cards. Dual GPUs will come out soon.

Both are equal
but mostly depending on what you do
for Source engine related games such as Half Life 2
and Counter Strike
get ATI cards

for everything else
nVidia somehow has the upper hand
i personally like nVidia
i have 2 7800GTs
and i plan to upgrade to a 8800 GTX (DX10 cards! late November!)

choose NVDIA.
i have an ATI vga, and i just use it for one month, after send several complains and try to find some solution in ATI website, i give up, and sell it again with half price .

Most of games are not compatible with ATI vga. I tried to download newest driver from ATI website with hope that my games will run smoothly without freezing or quit suddenly, the result is 'zero'.

if you don't believe me, goto ATI website, you will see hundreds complain and asking about 'why their games is freezing...' etc.

I use Nvidia and I highly recommend it, as it's always done a great job for me. However, some of todays online games are very demanding so if you're a big gamer, make sure you're getting the card that can match your needs. Hope this helps. Larry at Radio Shack
