How do I make this Halloween, easy on my cousin? Last year, my cousins 5 year old son, was struck by a car that was speeding and was killed. Being that he died on Halloween last year, it's very difficult for her, what's even more difficult is the fact that she blames herself, for his death. She was with a group of adults, whom all had their kids, during the moving crowd, her son got away from her grip and before she knew it, it was hard to spot him and when she did spot him, it was too late. The scene was horrific because the person was drunk and speeding. What can i do, to ease her pain? It was only a year ago today, when this happened and she still has nightmares about it.

Oh, that is terrible! I don't know if there's really any one thing you can do to make her feel better if this is only the first anniversary of her son's death. Why don't you see if she'll go out with you. Take her somewhere where you know she won't see any kids out trick-or-treating, like maybe a nice restaurant or a movie. If she won't go out, come over and plan a movie night for the two of you. Rent a couple of movies, nothing involving kids or tragedy or anything remotely Halloween-like. Maybe just some really stupid-funny movies like Wayne's World or Dude, Where's My Car? Or whatever kind of movies she's into. Don't be surprised if she doesn't want to do anything at all, and if she wants to just sit there and cry, the best thing you can do is be with her and let her know you're there for her. It may never get any easier since it was such a terrible thing that happened, but knowing she has a caring cousin like you might ease her pain at least a little on this hard night. God bless you and your cousin!

Oh. I have a realting problem... My cousin was murdered on Holloween in a very brutal fashion.. and we have to care for her son and her brother lives with my family- the best advice anyone can give is
A. try to avoid any sort of holloween function, for instance parties trick or treating events and try your best to pretend its not a holiday. Secondly is give her time and be understanding up until the day - i know im quite irratable the week before as well. Then On the day - be with her. Its not a good day to be alone.
B. the second best thing i can think of is - an angel. Every year since at college it is very hard to avoid the parties and the holiday, I always dress up like an angel to remember her spirit and praise her life.
C. any little thoughtful thing you do for her on this day - will be greatly appecaited. bring her flowers that just say we're here for you. just knowing that someone else cares / remembers / and respects is a huge huge help...
And as for me - I please ask that anyone who reads tihs doesnt dress up as a murdered women.. or a traped woman.. it hurts and i feel that soemtmes people let this holiday get out of hand. Murder is no joke and nothing to be celebrated. Thanks.. God Bless.

I am so sorry. Just try to be there for her. This is a tough thing to go through, it's hard to suggest something. I know what it is like to have someone in the family commit suicide, but what happened to your cousin is different. A year isn't that much time to heal. Hopefully as time goes on she can heal more and her pain will ease, but I know she will never forget. Just be there for her. God bless to you and your cousin.

noone can ease her pain , losing a child is so devastating . halloween will always be hard for her and this is the 1st anniversary of his passing. maybe you could hang out with her tonight , let her cry , scream ,or whatever she wants , if she has other kids maybe you could offer to take them trick or treating , or if she wants to , go with her . just be there , thats whats important and she`ll appreciate it. i hope she finds the peace she needs and may god bless your family......

Maybe you could keep her out of the house while the kids are going from house to house by inviting her to a quiet restaurant for dinner. Take your time. Bless you both.
