It doesn't, it WALKS to the nearest pub...has a few drinks...and goes home with the kindest person in the pub, thusly gaining an 'abode'.

A homing pigeon is just that if it had no fixed abode it wouldn't be homing it will go where there is food

A homing pigeon is created by training. Until then it is a pigeon and can live on the telephone wires behind my house.

Homing pigeons all have homes and they do not forget where they live. They are far more resilient than you might imagine.
