All offensive penalties, including holding, are marked from the line of scrimmage. The only exception is when holding occurs in the endzone in which case a safety is awarded to the defensive team. It would be ridiculous to mark it from the spot of the foul if it occurred beyond the line of scrimmage, because all the offense would have to do would be to run 20 yards downfield and hold and after the 10 yard penalty they would have a net gain of 10 yards and be awarded a first down.

Actually stung4ever is correct. If the foul occurs behind the line of scrimmage, it is from the line of scrimmage. If it's beyond the line of scrimmage, it's from the spot of the foul.
The only exception is holding in the end zone, which is a safety, as are all offensive penalties in their own end zone.

Offensive penalties are assessed from the line of scrimmage. If the play involves a change of possession (fumble, interception, punt) the penalty is marked off from the spot of the foul. And if the infraction occurs in the team’s own end zone it becomes a safety for the other team.

It depends on whether or not it is a running play or a passing play. Passing plays are automatically incomplete and assessed from previous spot. Running plays are assessed from spot of foul. Could have holding in backfield and the penalty could be more than 10 yards.
