Personally I would think it is unfair. Most jobs just are concerned with piercings and clothes. Nails are another subject. Would he feel the same way if another guy has hang nails and chews on his fingernails. Isnt that more unprofessional. If you feel your nails are well maintained I would keep it like it is. I really dont think it is offensive. You should really look into your employee manual. If it doesnt say anything about nails. Screw him. Would he rather you coming to work with a halter top and min skirt. Ask your other co workers if they think your nails are offensive. If you work with the public ask someone what they think. Speak to someone higher up than your boss and see if its okay. I really dont see any problem.

It might not be the best color for going to work, I don't agree that it is offensive and I think it is not your manager's place to give his/her personal opinion in the matter.
My personal point of view is the color is just not appropiate for a working enviroment, I have the same opinion about bright red. When they hired you they gave you a list of regulations, what to wear , what you shouldn't wear etc. Check for the nail polish and show her it is not on the list.
I feel it should be your choice to use black nail polish just like other women use white nail polish but you might get in trouble for it so be careful.
It is a matter of taste, your manager finds it offensive and that's her opinion and wants you to stop using it because she doesn't like it. If you don't follow her orders she might get mad at you and fire you the first chance she gets, be careful.

tell your boss that you feel that black nail polish can be professional if maintained. if a black dress is acceptable for any occasion shouldn't black finger nail polish?you probably won't be the employee of the month but he will know that you are not trying to be offensive towards anyone...if that isn't the answer that you were looking for then just switch up the colors to something that is a bit more"professional"

Looking at answers already given, I would say first ask your manager what he/she finds offensive about it. Then see what compromise you can come to.
The dark Burgundy, I feel, is as good as it gets. It's a lovely rich dark colour which without being emo/goth, gives a very striking look.

I love black nail polish too but it is inappropriate for the work place, try a dark red, burgundy, purple, or chocolate color for work then you manger won't complain but make sure you keep them well groomed. Save the black nail polish for the weekends or your off days. Remember to coat the dark nail polish with clear color to give it an extra shine and elegant look.

Well, I agree. If you are in a professional environment it does not go. I would just have to wear it on the weekends. Unless you think another job is the answer, your call. But, I agree with him. it is still associated with goth even though it's not anymore, it's still the impression. Sorry.

I usually only wear black nail polish on Halloween! Save it for the weekend you don"t want to lose your job over nail polish. At CVC they have a nail polish called Milani, it"s a dark grape but everyone always thinks it"s black. I get alot of compliments on it!! Good luck!

Hmmm...if you wear your nails really short and extremely well manicured I would think it's not a big deal. However, if your boss explicitly said no black nail polish, that's the end of the road. Even if it is the hottest fall look for hands.

A new popular look out right now is black nails...but it is done with a classy twist. It is actually very deep maroon or purple colors they are using. It gives you the black nail look without the stark black Gothic appearance :)
Maybe trying this will make your boss ok with your nail color choice, Good luck!

If the rest of your loOKs don't go with goth thing and stuff it shouldn't be a problem. As long as the are fixed and tidy should be ok. Tell him how you feel about that. If not, try french manicure with diagonal black tip, it looks great!
