yes i did. different people in our world were leading totally different lives, except for the fact that something had happened to someone close to them. what happened was a result of things in our material world. a professor realized all these things that had happened to these people, and realized it was because of things in this world. such as rape, murder, etc. so tis professor met with these people, and told them about an idea he had. this idea was to build a village in his wildlife preserve, and to start new lives there. there would be no violence, nothing of any evil nature whatsoever. they would live in an isolated world, and teach their children that anything beyond their small cottage was bad. they created the creatures to keep people from wandering through the woods to find the wildlife preserve, and realize all the other things that we have today. they did it to protect future generations, and themselves, to keep away from all the evil in the world. if you're lost here, try this explaination from ruinedendings.com

"The villagers don't live in 1897, but the present. The village is actually a project devised by wealthy John Walker (Elder Walker). The village elders all suffered tragic losses in their modern lives. To escape violence, they started a village inside a wildlife preserve, walled off from society. The elders masquerade as the monsters to keep the younger and unknowing members within village boundaries. Lucius Hunt is seriously injured and needs medicine. The elders have sworn never to return to the 21st C, so Elder Walker sends his blind daughter, Ivy for the medicine. Surviving a perilous trek, she meets up with a security guard patrolling the preserve’s perimeter. He gets medicine for Ivy, and she returns to the village still knowing nothing about the outside world and believing she has killed a monster who tried to attack her. The guard was unaware people were living inside the preserve"

What i got out of it was that, the Parents or older people, did not want to raise their children in the common world which they were apart of before. They were all teachers and friends, I think, and a hanus murder happened to one of their friends or at the school. So they bonded together, created their Village in the middle of a dense forest, without other people knowing and lived their so their childeren would not have to be subject to the "normal" world.
The Monsters were just costumes that the grown ups would wear to make every one afraid to leave the village. Wathc the movie again and really pay attention to the time when they are getting the blind girl ready to get teh medicine. It kind of explains everything, so she doesn't get scared because there really aren't monsters. And the one she encounter is Adrian Brody messing with her.

Hope this helps, I haven't seen it for a while.

The elders were originally from a support group that decided to leave present day society in order to find a perfect and safe world in a different time. They kept the younger generation in the village by creating fear of "those we don't speak of" with mythical monsters and red symbols of evil. They survive being found out by remaining on a nature perserve that is protected with a no fly zone and is virtually untouched. When one of their younger villagers is injured in an attempted murder, they send the only blind person to retrieve medicine to help him. In the end, they seem to succeed in their attempts to keep their utopian society.

It was about a group of Adults who worked in a busy fast paced city. I am not sure I remember the city itself. They broke off and created their own little town of simplicity and went basically "back to basics". They then created monsters to scare the children and others into staying into the village so that they would not realize that there was busy hectic technological cities out there..........
