Unfortunately they are political too. Why does the US do it for Cuba and not the People's Republic of China. China was against us in the Korean conflict of the 1950s, in VietNam,and still opposes us on issues that the mainstream media ignores.

A lot of US manufacturing is in China and we can return to an economic superpower if we increase manufacturing plants.

Manufacturing is the best indicator that a nation is wealthy.

Well the Embargo Act was passes in the end of 1807 when brittish ships were impressing U.S. Vessels, example Chesepeake Affair. Impressements were when the brittish ships use to stop american ships and inspect them to check for brittish run aways. If there was brittish runaways, they would force them into their navy. Sometimes the brittish forced and took american property and citizens. Anyhow, the embargo act prohibited international trade with any foreing nation and vice-versa. The U.S. Economy quickly fell. Consequently, The War of 1812 simply began because the U.S. could not take impressments anymore, and sooner or later they had to face the Brittish. No one clearly won the war, but the U.S. did survive, something no one excpected, because the United States were in no way ready.

Embargoes are useless and cruel. They don't overthrow regimes, they just punish the poor people.
