The plague hit different parts of Europe at different times in the 14th century. It was a reoccurring event until about 1906 when a cure was found. Many of those who contracted the plague died with in 1 to 4 days. Those that struck England in 1348-1350 killed off about 33% or more of the population. People were under fed, hygiene, both personal and other wise were none existent. Harvest were poor, there was a mini ice age, too many mouths to feed and not enough food to fed all. The mass were physical in bad health when the plague arrived. Before the plague wages were very low due to the fact there were so many people and not enough work for all. After the plague killed off so many, there was a shortage of labor. This enabled the labor force to demand and get higher wages and thus higher standard of living.

There is more to it, but unless your willing to pay $400.00 for my term paper I wrote, which the professor gave me an A, the end.

They would blame the plague on supernatural sources. Some would whip themselves in the hope that God would spare them. A red cross was drawn on the houses of the diseased. Sometimes settlements barricaded themselves up to prevent refugees from infecting the population. People tried to use magic, prayer, spells; not that it had a lot of impact.

They died - it was fatal. One third of the population of Europe was killed which meant that labor was in short supply and working people were better rewarded. This helped to break down feudalism
