We have a lot of children in our safe and quiet, urban neighbourhood. At Halloween, you would normally find 20-30 knocking all the doors. This evening's weather was perfect for the occation, but the streets are deserted. No kids on the steets. It's the first time it's happened. Has this year's Halloween escaped your neighbourhood also. If so what do you think is the cause?

Plenty of kids running around here (Glasgow). But I think because of parents concerns more people now have hallowe'en parties, which stop the children going round doors.

We used to have some trick or treaters here but its been at least two or three years since we have had anybody come to our house to trick or treat but that is probably due to the fact that they have cut the hours once again to only 1 hour this year. When I was little (about 15 years ago) it used to be from dark until 11 pm and we would still go out past 11 and still get candy. How come have they shortened the hours, is this going on everywhere, and are they trying to get rid of halloween?

Here in England, it's typical Halloween weather, rain, strong winds and very cold.Usually get loads of kids knocking at the door, but only 2 kids turned up. Still got a table full of coins(English custom to give money) and as it's 11:00pm, no chance of any more callers. Haven't seen any kids out on the street.

Trick or treat won't start here for another hour or so (once it gets dark). We live on a busy street, so we don't usually have very many. That's a shame, because when I was little I always remember my mom talking about how many kids we had at the door, and I still buy candy based on that..... which means more for me to eat, I guess. :-)

It's sad that it's getting that way -- most people are good, and most kids have parents that go with anyway, but the very few CRAZIES out there are ruining it. Well, MY kids will be out there, you can be sure of that!

I had only one occasion to answer the door, it was 2 teenage girls, not in any costume saying, "trick or treat". I said, "but you're not even in a costume", one replied "I'm a bear raaaaar". She had her hood up lol
I gave her some chocolate for her audacity. Looks like I'll have to eat the rest of it myself, shame lol.

Seriously there's been so much in the media about how bad trick or treating is I think everyone has been put off. Tis a shame, the little ones love it don't they. There's been loads of crap about how it encourages satanism lol well I always trick or treated and I'm no witch, well not much = )

I think people who like trick or treaters should put a pumpkin outside so everyone knows whether to call there or not. Oh and all parents of small kids should arrange for the little ones to knock on each others doors.

We had 17 different groups of kids in the space of an hour - all knocked the door despite my notice for 'No trick or treaters' on the door. I dont mind them but my 2 dogs freak and I dont open the door for fear that it will scare the kids if my dogs have a go (which they will coz they are only trying to protect me). Even just giving each of them a few sweets would have cost a fortune - no wonder pensioners dread it.

well, i'm not sure that your neighborhood children have lost the spirit of halloween forever, it could just be that not as many want to do the whole trick or treat thing anymore...think about it, are the kids in your urban, safe, quiet neighborhood about the same age group as each other...? if they are, it could just be that they are growing out of the whole idea of trick or treating. but don't lose your spirit and have a great halloween! oh, and yes...my street is also deserted...haha. :-)

We've had none either & I have to say I'm a little surprised !!!

It's my first Halloween in the US, living in a proper house (as opposed to an apartment in London) & considering Halloween in the US is a much bigger event than in the UK & merchandise appeared on the shelves at the end of August I thought I should be prepared so went out & bought all sorts of mini candy bars on Sat just incase they came early ...... but nothing .....

We live on quite a busy road so maybe that's the reason ....... ??

Well on the news this morning, there was a high percentage something like 97% of people not in favour of Halloween, All to do with high crime rate especially on the elderly, unnecessary event and costs. They will soon be talking about abolishing it entirely. We also had no one come to our house, maybe two knocks, loads of sweets left over.Thought we were the only ones.

your quiet urban children are getting high off Halloween weed in your basements.

jk :)

Our mall has Trick or Treat night every Halloween so our kids aren't roaming the streets. Maybe something like that is going on where you live.
