will try to be kind...
you need to provide a lot more info.
could be a hardware conflict
could be bad ram or wrong ram
could be ram installed wrong
could be bad processor
could be misconfigured CMOS
- clear the CMOS and try again.

You cannot perform a significant hardware upgrade without performing a complete O.S. install.
Even a minor hardware upgrade may trigger a re-activation from Microsoft.
You need to set the cdrom as a boot device and then restart the system with the XP install CD in it. Then perform a full install of the O.S.

The startup files for the hard drive, known as the "Master Boot Records" are hidden but need to be copied to a floppy disk just for situations like this when you cant get it to boot on it's own. Just after the bios and ram check, these particular files load the necessary drivers , etc that are needed to complete the bootup process into Windows. MSDos.sys IO.Sys Config.sys and autoexect.bat are the main files that do this for you. These files are hidden on the root drive C: with particular attributes but can be copied to a floppy by using the command "sys a:" The command tells the computer to copy it's system files to the floppy drive which is a: This has to be done from a dos prompt which you can see on a list along with some other items such as "safe mode" etc by hitting either the F5 or F8 key just after the Ram check. Once there, choose "Dos Prompt" so that you can go to the c: which is the root drive (hard drive) and type in the command "sys a:" so that it will copy the files to the floppy. Hope this helps. OK if you have a OS on the HDD then that's the trouble because it has the setting for the computer it came from you need too reformat the hard drive and boot the system with a XP or floppy disk and install a fresh copy of xp.

See I tried this before installing a HDD from one computer too another never booted up.

Hope this helps

Hi. Try going into BIOS again and set the boot order to HS as the first and none as the second and third. See if it boots. If not double check that the HD and DVD are set as Master and Slave in that order. Next try a separate cable for the DVD.
