my sister is 2 1/2 months pregnant and she supposedly went to the doctor and they did an ultrasound. she went cause she has a sever headache and nausea. the thing i find funny is that the doctor told her that she is having a girl. i've been pregnant twice and lost both at the 9 week mark so i'm not sure when you can find out the sex but i do know that from seeing the ultrasounds of mine that at 8 weeks they weren't even that big to tell what gender they were. i don't very much now after that point about pregnancy but plz if anyone can help me out here. another thing is that i am somewhat suspious of her pregnancy cuz she refused to see a doctor till today, refuses prenatel vitamins, and when people ask her if she is then she will deny it to some people but to others she will say she is. she just isn't acting like she is or either this is something she don't want.

Usually, you can't tell the sex on an ultrasound until at least about 16 weeks, or a little over 3 1/2 months. It seems very unlikely that they could tell she is having a girl at 2 1/2 months. If anything, they might be able to tell if she were having a boy, because they would be able to see something, but saying she is having a girl would be saying "we should be able to see a you-know-what, and we don't see one, so it's a girl." It seems very unlikely that, not seeing a you-know-what at 2 1/2 months, the doctor would tell her she was having a girl.

18 weeks is generally early enough. The baby most likely did not cooperate with showing off the goods. (Could have had legs crossed or had the umbilical cord between the legs). You will probably find out at your 20 week scan. A tip: Drink some Orange Juice before going into your appt. (A half hour before is good). The sugars will give the baby a bit of a sugar high and get him/her moving around a little. The more the baby moves, the more angles the Dr. can get on the scan and the higher the chances of catching a glimpse. Good Luck.

Generally a doctor can tell the sex via ultrasound between 16-18 weeks if the baby is in a good position. If your sister is refusing to take prenatal vitamins, tell her she's risking the health of her baby. Not taking care of yourself during pregnancy can lead to physical and/or mental defects in the baby.

between 16 and 20 weeks that's kind of sad about your sister. I have had one miscarriage and it was also at eight weeks like yourself and the doctors could not tell me the gender. My other pregnancies though the doctors would only tell me the genders late in the pregnancies. I think I was 5month and a bit to tell me I was having a girl and the one before I was seven months along and they told me I was having a boy..

i found out i was having a boy at 10 weeks, it usually depends on the position the baby is lying in. my sister never knew what she was having until her daughter was born because she was always lying in a difficult position.
i only had an ultra sound to see how far i was because we had no idea when my last period was. ultrasounds are usually done at around 18 weeks which is when most people find out!
at 10 weeks along the baby has already developed its organs to determine the sex, although it usually is difficult it is possible to know that early, but its not always accurate, although mine was

Sex determing ultrasounds are done at around 20 weeks. Your sister could not possibly know the sex of her baby unless she had an amniocentisis.

10 weeks seems a bit early, I thought it was not until around 24 weeks that it was anywhere near accurate enough and the sex organs developed enough to be able to tell.
