it was 16 yrs. old and had 34,000 miles on it. I was 16 yrs. old and had very few miles on me...lol, i was doing yard work for an elderly lady and the dodge was in the garage up on blocks, it had been her husbands, who had passed away, i bought it from her for 125.00. a lot of money back in 1956..I did a ton of yard work to pay it off..and to pay my folks back for helping me buy it...i immediately burnt the clutch up in it, fixed it, got t-boned by a woman running a red light, and ended up blowing up the engine for not checking the oil when i should have....my dad was not too happy with my first car experience, especially since i didn't listen to him about maintenance...

It was 1969 and I was 17 years old. Family friends had a 1957 Pink Oldsmobile 4 door and I bought it for $75.00. It had a great big V-8 with a Carter AFB 4 BBL carbeurator and automatic transmission. I drove a hundred everywhere I went and eventually blew the tranny by reving up the motor and dropping it into gear! Then I drove the brakes off it and ran the tires bald. Eventually sold it to a wrecker for $10.00. Probably ther best investment and return on a car I ever had and ever will! Thanks for asking!

1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan. I got it in 1977 when I was 15 and it was a one owner with 38000 miles on it. 250 6 with three on the tree. Paid $550 with money from yard work and working for a baker from 4am to 7 am before school. That was fun!

You know I traded that car a few years later for a 1970 Plymouth GTX 440 which I used to street drag. I won a 69 Chevelle in a pink slip race with that car. It was totaled by a friend who spent 4 months in the hospital from that wreck. The Chevelle was traded for a 67 Plymouth ragtop with a 383, which was later traded sometime later for a BMW 2002 autocross racer. There was also a 66 Mustang fastback, a 66 Barracuda and a 71 Challenger in there somewhere too. I owned four cars at the same time when I was 20 years old. If I had all these cars today I could sell them and retire wealthy!

Once I went European, I never went back to Detroit. I'm 44 and have owned 36 cars by last count, American and European. Not one Japanese car ever.

Today I drive a BMW M5 and the wife has a MB ML55. My favorite of all time would easily be the 89 BMW 325ix, which was performance modified, turbo and lowered. I regret selling it more than any other car and I had it longer than any other as well.

A 1992 Pontiac Lemans that my mom bought for me at $3000 so that I could get to and from college. We had problems with the muffler, the E brake got stuck and the rad hose was problamatic. We fixed it and then my mom told me I had to start paying for my own insurance. I didn't have enough money, so we sold it to the guy I was dating at the time. He wasn't careful, the radiator cracked. He still drove it and killed the engine. It's now almost 5 years later and the car has been totally stripped and it's carcas is probably in a junk yard. =(

I then had a 1997 Buick Regal, amazing car, but I was in an accident and it was totalled.....

Now, I have a brand new Ford Focus Hatchback. Much more my style.

Mine was a 1954 Buick Special two door. It had a yellow body and a black top. My father bought it new in 1954 and a few years later gave it to an aunt of mine. She kept it a few years and gave it to a cousin of mine who drove it for a couple of years. He gave it to me in 1966 when I was 21 years old. It had a V-8, if I recall, 364 cubic inches coupled to a Dyna-flow transmission. At best, it got about 10 miles per gallon. I bought a new Buick in 1967, but still kept this one as a commuter car for a few more years. I installed seat belts in it when I first got it. The car saved my life in 1969 when a taxi ran a red light in Manhattan and we hit, nearly head on. The taxi was a total wreck, but that good old Buick only suffered a dented fender. I was able to drive it away, the taxi had to be towed. I wish I had kept the car.

A '59 Chevy 4-door, three on the tree, straight-six. Every 30 miles, I had to check the gas and fill it with oil.

I loved that car.

A puke yellow 1970 Ford Maverick for $400. There was a hesitation in reverse, so it didn't back up for close to a minute!
But I paid every penny on it, and I was proud as hell!
