I don't celebrate Halloween. My husband and I usually stay home and watch a movie. Being a christian, I don't like to participate in something that has to do with so much evil. People think it is a harmless holiday but if they really knew everything that goes on that night besides the candy and costumes and realized how many people are abused sexually and physically because of the deeper meaning of this holiday not to mention all the animals that are harmed for the sake of rituals, I don't think a lot of people would celebrate it. It is a celebration of the dead and that isn't my choice of fun.

I celebrate for a couple of reasons. First, I'm Wiccan, and Samhain (Halloween) is a MAJOR holiday. Second, I love to dress up in costume (in fact, no matter what I'm wearing it's probably not who I 'really' am, so everything is a costume anyway). Finally, the kids love to get dressed up as something scary and go out and get candy. Really, Halloween is the perfect holiday - no "traditional" meal like Thanksgiving, no pressure like Christmas, lots of fun decorations, spirits, monsters, costumes and candy. What's not to love!?!
People that believe that this day is "evil" and full or abuse and sacrifices should really do some research instead of living in ignorance and fear. Sure, there are evil people who do evil things, but they're out there every day. Samhain is actually the final harvest festival of the Pagan religion. It's a time to prepare for the coming winter, and to honor those who have died. If you're interested, you can find some great information here: http://www.wicca.com/celtic/akasha/samhainlore.htm

First off, the holiday grew up around the Summer Soltice where legend tells that the boundries between all worlds become thinner. The act of dressing up as demons or otherworldly creatures was to "scare" them away from our world. There's a lot of history and nifty legends that surround this holiday. Candy has been added to every holiday celebrated in the US so the businesses can make more money off of people. Rather than trying to be "holier-than-thou" about this holiday, try doing some research into what makes the holiday special.
