The light probably won't go out. Go back or to another store and ask them to turn it off with their scan tool. If the gas cap is tight look around for a broken hose in the emission system. If the problem still exists the lite will come back on in a day or two.

This COULD be a fuel cap problem, but more likely it is a problem with the actual purge command/response itself. If he turned the light out for you, go ahead and drive it for a few days and see if it comes back on. If not, good. Next time remember to secure the cap well after fueling.
If the light comes back on, take your car to the dealer or a licensed smog repair facility for diagnostics and repair.
Unfortunately, this is one of the systems that is very complex to diagnose, and requires some pretty sophisticated equipment for successful diagnosis.

Good Luck

Hey the same thing happened to me....I was in a rush putting gas in a couple of months back and didn't tighten the lid all the way on my gas tank. My check light came on and I was freaking out because my car is brand new, I took out the owners manual and looked it up and that is one of the things they recommend! I never thought my check light would be triggered by something so weird....

wow the answer you got from those guys is wrong...probable causes fro that code are as follows: wiring, EVAPE valve (evaporative emissions) mechanical fault........you need to take you car to a professional that knows what there are doing, not some joker that works at a discount auto parts store..they are not mechanic and probley never be one...driving it for a few days will NOT correct the code and may cause other problems....good luck

it could be a bad cap or a leak in the fuel system or an oxygen sensor you need to have the car scaned to see the codes
