For some, the confederate flag represents an era in our history of racism and slavery. Many African Americans were treated horribly and discriminated upon during that era and the flag reflects that to some.
With that said, I think ppl need to realize that certain things don't have the same meaning to others as it does to them.
For example, I was born and raised in the South and had a confederate flag in my room as a teenager. It never even crossed my mind that it represented any form of racism.
At the time, it represented being a rebel from uniformity of the system much like the South wanted to break away from the Union and was willing to fight for that cause.

No. I have a confederate flag key chain because I was born in the south. Uh the flag on the car probably wouldnt go over to well where I live now

No, it simply means that the person remembers the Old South, which was more than just slavery.

for an ousider's prospective: i'm from australia, although i've lived in the USA twice, albeit not in the south!
but i think the confed flag is disgusting, why don't they just wear KKK robes as well? it doesn't matter why they r displaying it, it's wat it will mean to other people, imagine if ur great grand parents were slaves? how would you see that flag then? it would almost be a personal insult.
Personally, being white if i saw someone with one of those flags it says to me that they r stupid, and i would want to punch them in the face for wat the confederates (and their flag) represents - slavery, racism, human barbarity, backwardsness, stagnation, bad economic policy, anti-modernisation, and fighting for the wrong reasons.

I think it means they are making a statement in support of free speech.
Used to be in this country people understood that.
