I think you are talking about songs where the bass is the memorable element...in that case...

Stanley Clarke : School Days

Level 42 : Lessons in Love

Cream : Badge (although the arpegio guitar was also good !)

Fever....most people who played it.

Queen : Another One Bites The Dust

Frankie Goes To Hollywood : Two Tribes

Ian Dury : Rhythm Stick

Any more for any more ?

A name I don't see above that you must look for is Victor Wooten. He has a few solo albums and he is always the bass player for Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. My daughter, who saw many great musicians in her day, said that she had NEVER seen anyone with such mastery of their instrument as Victor Wooten and I am inclined to agree. He is a bass god.

In addition to those listed - all great - check out "Not Fade Away" by John Entwhistle OR (believe it or not) by Trout Fishing in America, which is a cover of the Entwhistle version. Man, is it ever great. In TFIA, you will not believe what one man can do with a bass. This song is reason enough to attend any TFIA concert. They're not just for kids any more.

An obvious one has to be "Jump Into The Fire" by Harry Nilson. He turned Herbie Flowers loose on that tune.
