I thought the U.S. was home of the brave and land of the strong. All I see is lard butts slurping down burgers and supersize fries.

The farming days are over....people have replaced physical labor with desktop occupations. Children are no longer required to take P.E. in most school systems. Restaurant portions have more than doubled. Yes, Americans are gaining weight, but I think these changes are being made under their noses...present but not obvious. We just need to become more aware of our actions (regarding food, that it).

we cant just blame it on burgers and fries, macdonalds and burger king are ok in small amounts, maybe once a month as a treat, the problem is that people eat way too much of food and in very unhealthy portions.
I think the problem starts in childhood, parents not being good examples and being lazy, not teaching there children healthy eatting habits instead they send them out to grab some fish and chips instead of maybe going to the super market and buying the fresh stuff instead. Obese people will often try and justify there reasons of being obese so they dont feel guilty and the sad thing the people around them such as partners, family etc will often agree with them. I watched a television program once with a very obese 56 yr old women, she could not walk and had been in bed for atleast 4 years, she would say things like "i wish i could diet, but i cant" yet while she said this there was two empty ice cream containers sitting next to her bed.

Because Of The Convience Of Fast Food And The Business Of Everyday Peoples Lives To Make Ends Meet

This is too easy.

We have more food then almost any other country in the world. We over produce and overeat. Our hard working farmers, see that we have enough to eat.

Also our bodies are designed to store fat, a long long time ago we didn't know how long it would be between meals, so to keep us alive during the lean times our body stored as much fat as it could. We also had to hunt and gather our own food, that meant we had to work for our food, not just drive to the Mega-market and buy nicely packaged food.

But, the way you phrased your question, I can see you're really down on fat people so I have one question for you:

Which would you rather have, a country full of fat people, who might get heath problems from overeating, or children who are starving to death?

Think about it and led a good life

You only need to look at the size of the portions. Most restaurants serve enough on one plate for a family of 4. It is a country of excess and if restaurants do not serve large enough portions their customers believe they are being cheated and will boycott the restaurant.

I was down at the New Jersey shore last month every day taking my morning constitutional and there were literally hundreds of people of all ages out taking exercise, so although there are many obese, many others follow a healthier lifestyle.

I think it is because we have so many fast food restaurants, pre-packaged meals, all you can eat buffets, every kind of soda imaginable. People spend to much time watching tv and using their computers. People are not eating healthy and are not exercising enough. Although weight loss and dietary fads are both American obsessions, as a nation we are becoming fatter and fatter, with one in three Americans suffering from obesity and another thirty three percent being unhealthily overweight. Being overweight and obesity are most common in the youngest generations, especially children 12 and under. In addition, in the last decade, the incidence of obesity among US adults has risen by 50 percent.

It's not just the food (although that's a big part of it). We get less time off of work than people in other countries. We're dependent on the automobile, due to many of us living in suburbs that are not convenient to public transportation, or places to walk to. Many of us are afraid of going outside, because we live in dangerous neighborhoods (other countries have stricter gun laws). Recess and gym classes are being eliminated from schools. These factors make it more difficult to get exercise. Food, lack of exercise, plus the stress in living in a society where productivity and conspicuous consumption are prized above human relationships, would make anyone go on a food binge!

Its not the United States fault, its the people's fault. Too many hours at work then rush home to take the kids to whatever practice they may have. There isn't enough time to cook a decent meal & its so easy to drive thru for fast (fatty) food.
It takes both parents working today to make ends meet so there is just no time for healthy cooking.

To much fast food.
People work over time and stop and get fast food for dinner. All fat and caliories they feel they just don't have time to make a good meal.

Also people are now playing internet games and other games, not biking
hiking and other things that help you
keep weight and weight problems down.

I think you just answered your own question! Too much high fat food. Too many large portions. Not enough exercise.
By the way, obesity does not exclude the brave or the strong.
