I have just bought a usb to ethernet adaptor for my computer so that i can setup wireless internet with the router i have just bought. My computer doesnt have a ethernet port, so thats why i needed to buy a adaptor. I have to download the driver for the adaptor off the internet, which i did fine, but i can not install the driver, because the file types is .sys. And will not open on my computer so i cant setup the wireless internet. Does anyone know if the is a way to get .sys files to run on computer? oR make the adaptor work?

i didnt get any drivers to install when i bought the adaptor. i had to download it from the internet. but i cant open the .sys file.

A .sys file being a driver doesn't sound right.
Can you please post the make & model number of your adaptor. Also what OS are you using?

Just take the thing back. It is supposed to be fit for it's purpose under the sale of goods act. Then get a wireless dongle to plug in your USB port and that will connect your computer wirelessly to your router. Incidentally, sys files are data files used by program files in the system. It was probably for XP to use to configure it for ethernet.

You need to install the .sys, not run it. There should be a setup program to install the driver. If there isn't, you need the .inf file that came with the driver. You right click in the .inf file, and select install.
You can't install a driver without either the .inf or a setup program provided by the driver manufacturer.

Sounds like you got the wrong driver. One .sys file couldn't hold all the information required to install a driver.

Right click on my computer/ computer or if windows 8 this pc and go to to device manager. Under device manager go to the missing adaptor "usually under wlan and will have a yellow mark" and right click. Update driver... browse computer... go to the file with the driver. select it and press next... windows will automatically install it for you. Chow! :D

To start off, take the usb to ethernet adapter back and get a nic card! The usb adapter will slow your connection down anyway! You should be able to find a wired nic card for less than 10 bucks! You might find it at walmart!

You need to connect it to your computer and then under the control panel select "ADD HARDWARE" and then when it asks for the driver, point it toward the directory that contains the drivers supplied with the Ethernet adapter. Good luck!

Don't open it, find the hardware from the device manager option and follow the 'reinstall driver' tab/instructions.
