I agree, we used old white sheets when i was younger,
I also put on my Dads pants and shirts and tied them up with a rope for a belt and made myself look like a hobo.
an extra long tie loosly hanging around the neck works wonders for the ensemble. You could even tack (loosely sew) a couple of patches to the knees.

You could make him a football/baseball player. Get some black make up and do the lines under his eyes. He could wear a jersey or sports t-shirt. Just look through his closet (or your closet!) and see what you can put together. If needed, add your makeup to his face.

Throw a white sheet over him as a ghost. Or take some rags and pin or sew them to a pair of jeans and take another rag put it on a long stick and he can be a ho-bo.

For several years our old white sheet became a ghost costume. Unfortunately it got to hole-y and had to be retired.

Don't worry about it. There have been kids that have come to our house for Halloween and didn't have a costume on and I still gave them candy. It is noone's business about your financial situation and they should not look down on you or him for it.

A bedsheet with eye holes makes a great ghost.
Good luck!

I would dress him up in your clothes. That would be funny and creative. I am sure there are tons of things around your house that you could use. Best of luck and Happy Halloween.
