They should be cut on the slant, you can also pour 7-up in the prolong them. Keep them out of the sunlight in a cool spot. You can press them later or hang them upside down in a dark closet till they dry for a keepsake. Here is a lot more advise I'm no expert but they. are!

Clip them at a slant and immerse them in hot water for a few seconds. This makes it easier for them to absorb water. Do this everyday. Ask a florist about the powder you can add to the water to help keep them fresh. I get mine from the grocery store when I buy flowers there and a little goes a long way, and it really works.

Cut them at an angle, fresh water. That's about all you can do. My Grandma always said to put an aspirin in the water. That could be an old wive's tale, but her cut roses were always beautiful.

Keep them out of the sun in a cool spot and change the water every day, using very cold water.
And don't forget: how fresh were the roses to begin with, as in how long were they at the florist's, how long did it take to get them to the florist's, etc.?

My daughter told me that if I took any fresh flowers I received and place them in half water and ice they would last up to 10 days. Every 3rd day snip the bottoms and refill with ice and water. At first I didn't beleive her but tried it and gosh it worked.
She use to work for a flower shop and that is where she learned it. Interesting what you learn from your kids..

Add a capful of bleach to the water. It kills any bacteria and allows the roses to live longer.
