Why is Capote's view toward Perry more sympathetic than his view of Dick in, "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote?

Capote's point of view toward Perry is more sympathetic then his view toward Dick. Why is this? Defend, challenge, or qualify this statement with incidents, testimonies, and so on to support your answer.

If we are to believe either of the two major films about Capote in recent years, it is because Capote was sexually attracted to Perry Smith and may even had a homosexual relationship with him.
