Like if you were up against someone who was in the military most likely that person will get the job.

If you are up against someone *say you are white and they are of a different race* that person might end up getting the job because of skin color....because places don't want to discriminate against a certain race..so they need to have a certain number of each...

Same with a better looking person.

why do they do this? even though one person might be more qualified than the other.

You might as well ask why the Earth rotates around the sun. Sure, one place they might hire a person of color so that nobody can accuse them of discriminating but there's 10 places that will hire the white person even if they're less qualified and will get away with it.

This place might hire an idiot that reminds the manager of his favorite uncle and the next place might hire someone just because all the other applicants reminded the manager of someone and he or she didn't want to be reminded of someone else. Who knows?

Life's not fair. It never has been.

It's called political correctness, and there's no real logic behind it. The end result almost always runs counter to the original intentions, because in order to force an artificial balance you must discriminate against at least one group in order to favor another. It's ridiculous, really. A friend of mine, despite ranking very high, was rejected by a fire department last year because they had to reach a race quota.

Because business sucks, and that's the way it goes in the "real world."
Remember these thoughts if you are ever in a position that requires you to hire people. I think the power goes to people's heads and they lose their common sense.

It's just the way the world works.

Qualifications on paper don't always mean the best fit for the job.

Believe it or not....chances always come back around.
