I have a kitten that thinks the toilet is her personal spa, so we have to leave the whole thing closed and therefore never end up arguing about it. However, in reading the previous answers, it seems that the women can only come up with a total of 5 different reasons to support their argument that we should put it down. I will, as always, systematically destroy all female attempts at a logical argument (that was a joke you crazy feminists).
1)
Faulty Female Logic:
Of the four bodily functions(her pee, her poo, his pee, his poo), only one requires the seat up, therefore the odds are that there is a 75% chance that the next person will need the seat down so the guy should put it back down.
Rational Male Logic:
This is faulty logic because most people only take one or two craps per day, whereas they pee several times per day. The guys needs the seat up the majority of the time, and the woman needs it down the majority of the time. Therefore, each should be responsible for their own toilet setup.
2)
Faulty Female Logic:
Men should leave the toilet seat down when they are done with it because that is the way they found it.
Rational Male Logic:
If this rule applies, then females would need to put the seat back up when they are done with it if that is the way they found it.
3)
Faulty Female Logic:
Putting the seat back down is the gentlemanly or courteous thing to do.
Rational Male Logic:
We are talking about bodily functions here. It would also be courteous of us to wipe your a-s-s for you, but we don't see you asking for that. Courteous is opening a door, not staging your fecal session.
4)
Faulty Female Logic:
If a guy ever accidentally sat down with no seat, he would understand.
Rational Male Logic:
Hello? We sit too, and you can be damn sure that we check for the seat when we do. Grow up and take some responsibility. If we apply your logic here, we could say that if a girl ever knew what it felt like to kick a guy in the balls, she would never do it...whine whine whine.
5)
Faulty Female Logic:
Women shouldn't have to touch the seat to put it back down because it is nasty.
Rational Male Logic:
We have to do it, what makes you exempt? Don't you wash your hands when you are done?
Finally, women think that, for some reason, the toilet should always be left ready for them, and the men can just deal with it. However, if the women left the seat down when they were done with it, men would only have to move it some of the time, and if the men left the seat as is when they were done with it, the women would only have to move it some of the time...problem solved.

You know..if the only thing I had to worry about in my marriage was the toilet seat being left up I would be in hog heaven.
I really don't understand this issue with some women about the man leaving the toilet seat up. There are far too many issues to be pissed off about a toilet seat being left up. Just be thankful he had sense enough to put the toilet seat up. Women, you'll be surprised as to some of the men that don't bother to lift the seat up and end up pissing on the seat. SO next time you have to go ladies, look before you sit your azz down and shut the hell up about the toilet seat being left up. Put it down your damn self!

Um. The man is looking at the seat when he is going. The woman is facing the other way when she sits down. Last time I checked, humans don't have eyes in the back of their head, so who is most likley to notice the position of the toilet seat?

In my home, my daughter and I are out-numbered. BUT before I leave the restroom I always make sure that the toilet seat is up for my husband and my sons. All I ask is that the guys flush the damn toilet and aim for the water instead of everywhere else.

After me or my husband uses the toilet we put the seat and lid down, but if he happens to leave the seat up it does not bother me at all but if he pisses in the toilet and don't flush then I turn into a maniac from hell.

You will think that when your girlfriend/wife kicks your butt because she got up in the middle of the night, half asleep and groggy, and fell in! Plus men have horrible aim, you do not know how many times I've gone to put down the seat and touched pee. Disgusting! If the seat was already down I wouldn't have had any problems!

I like the toilet seat down and the cover shut .. period .. so every time I use it I put everything down ... so I'm sure he hates it more than me having to pull the seat down every-time ... I learned in the Army to always check before sitting ... so I really don't have a problem with this one ... !

Toilets should be covered when not in use. The fact that there is a movable seat is an accident of design, or at best, a design that limits contact with the actual toilet bowl.
So it is not really a gender question, it's a human sanitation question.

lol that's funny! It's just polite I suppose. With my boyfriend, he puts the seat down after going to the bathroom, and then he makes sure I put the lid down after I go to the bathroom. He wants me to have some sort of toilet responsibility I guess :)

Women seem to think they have the say as to the position of the seat, and that is ALWAYS DOWN when not in use. I say whoever uses it last and what for should dictate where it is when whomever is done with it. And even at that, is this something to fight over?
