I can't give you a plot, but I can tell you that some of the creepiest stories begin with seemingly ordinary characters and then one of them slowly becomes either more mysterious or just plain creepier and creepier. A good example would be the protagonist, played by Jack Nicholson, in Stephen King's "The Shining." The element of surprise is important, too, which was crucial to what made the first "Saw" movie so successful. Or maybe it's an ordinary event that becomes increasingly weird, such as the black box voting in Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery."

OK second suggestion:

You have just dropped your wife off to work and as you drive down the street you see a flash. The next thing you know you wake up in what appears to be a hospital room with numerous tubes attached to you. You see your wife and two of your children in the room reading and talking in a nearby chair. You wonder where Sophie is, but when you try to ask...the words don't come out. you try again but nothing. You begin to get restless and frustrated, "what is happening to me" you wonder as you struggle ing the bed. But you aren't moving at all. Your eyes are open, but you can't speak nor make sound. You can't move your hands or legs.Oh my God, you are paralyzed.

You lay in this state day after day but enjoy seeing your family. The kids show you their pictures and school work but you can't respond. Your wife sounds troubled but you can't comfort her, she can't tell you are awake. But where is Sophie?

One day the doctor comes in, examines you you. You try to respond but nothing. In the distance you hear him discussing the removal of your respirator and feeding tubes....
