AMD of course...no comparison there...they are more reliable and doesn't crash like the pentium 4..plus they don't get that hot...they usually stay around the 30's

I think the Pentium 4 is a 32 bit processor while the AMD Athlon 64 is a 64 bit processor. You're comparing apples to oranges. On top of that neither are cheap. Some people recommended the Intel Core Duo but I don't think they read your question cause that's not a cheap processor either.

If you want cheap check out a PC with the Intel Celeron or the AMD Sempron.

The Athlon 64's generally outperformed the P4 counterparts. You may also want to check out the Intel Core 2 Duo's, they are the best on the market now. They are decently priced too.

I reccomend Pentium D. not Pentium 4! Or if you have a stretched budget try Inetl core 2 duo. Make sure you shop around, check out http://www.whatpcshop.co.uk and choose all the companies there and compare prices and services!

AMD would give you more bang for the buck. One thing to consider is the heat and noise of the fan with the P4.

Now that I have answered your original question, I would advise you to look into the Intel Core 2 Duo chips ...look at the E6300 that should do you just fine.

The AMD vs Intel debate has no winners and no end. Personal preference is for AMD, some others will tell you Intel. The cheapest way to do it is read up on hardware and build it yourself.
