i hear and see all kinds of info. that they are soon going to overpower many countries and the world.

China has over a billion citizens, if they want to come into power, there's really not much anyone can do about it. But, it will take another century or so for the Chinese to reach their full potential. Advantages of it are that they will have to open up for free trade, being that all nations of significance are open for free trade, thus lowering prices on most of the goods that we use.
The only real disadvantage I can see from this is that as they grow in wealth, it will lower the overall wealth status of the United States.
Just remember, China's army is larger than the whole of the United States...
